Snakewood blank measuring 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" x 12 1/4". Measurements taken from largest part of blank. There's some severe checking on one side of blank. Snakewood is an incredibly beautiful wood that originates mostly in Suriname, South America. The specific gravity is around 1.2, making it one of the worlds hardest woods. The part sold as snakewood is really the heartwood of the larger tree. I only sell figured pieces that have a high density of figure unless specifically marked otherwise.

Besides its beauty, Snakewood has another common trait and that is checking. All snakewood will have cracks or checking. Cracks can be hidden by using either epoxy or CA (superglue) glue. Checking should not be feared because it's just part of working with this beautiful wood.
